Current situation since the reform and opening to the world, greenhouse in China has been under rapid and wide development especially recent 10 years. According to statistics analysis, Chinese protected cultivation area, including all types of greenhouses, plastic tunnels and shading shelters, is growing from 68,000 hm2 in 1985~1986 up to 1,396,000 m2 in 1998~1999, with an average annually increase of 102,000 m2. The total area of protected cultivation in China now is the biggest all over the world. Moreover, the area enlargement will continue but at a little bit slower speed. From the point of view of some experts, the protected cultivation area will sum up to 1,667,000 m2 in 2010~2011, at an increase of 23,000 m2 per year.
During the process of enlargement of the greenhouse area, there are shifts on the different types of greenhouse ratios, indicating the improvement of Chinese greenhouse level. Among the existing greenhouses, the ratio between middle or big sized greenhouses and small or simple greenhouses is about 6:4 nowadays instead of 4:6 in early 90's. Imported greenhouses in mid 80's and mid 90's help Chinese a lot in greenhouse development. Now people begin to focus more and more on energy saving. Solar-greenhouse, typical in north China, had found its way into extremendous growing during last 15 years.
The second edition of Solar-greenhouse, named as energy-saving Solar-greenhouse, increased up to 200,000 m2 in 1999. While this greenhouses were only 3,000 m2 in 1984. Averagely, it increases 44.38 times every year! Energy-saving greenhouse will keep on rapid development in next 10 years because of its sustainable features. |
